Except don't, please please don't.
Because wine is the best, dontcha agree?
In our house, we certainly agree.
Some of you may not have been around this bloggy for too long, so here's a super short and sweet recap:
Glenn and I honeymooned in Napa Valley, CA.
{And San Francisco, but we just didn't lurrrrve it very much. Sorry, big city :( }
And actually, as of our wedding day, and even the few weeks after, we didn't have our honeymoon planned.
We did have a honeymoon planned in the year leading up to our wedding, but do you know how much a sick dog and a new set of tires cost?
Oy vey, izz bad, y'all. That curveball was thrown our way in February 2012, just three months before our wedding day.
Seeing how our funds looked, we decided to be smart, financially responsible "adults" and cancel our honeymoon temporarily. Ergo, on May 12th, the post-wedding week we had to look forward to was going back to work.
Shitty shitty shitstains, I tell ya.
But blah blah everything happens for a reason blah. Cliché alert, I know. But for real, somewhere in the deep, dark bellows of life, there's a reason our original honeymoon didn't work out. Because dude, we couldn't have beat the honeymoon we ended up having.
Three weeks after becoming sleepover buddies for life, Glenn and I were eating lunch at a local bagel shop mid-workday. I looked up at him and said,
"Let's go to Napa for our honeymoon!"
That same night we booked rooms at Marriott hotels and had our trip planned for the first week of September.
{Sidebar: Now that we've done it, I do recommend waiting and not taking your honeymoon right after your wedding, if you can stand it. It's not "the norm," but it was really fun to have the whole summer to look forward to our vacation, and then get to relish in those newlywed feelings four months after the wedding!}
Seriously, it was that easy. Ya see, two years ago I'd suggested Napa to Glennda as a potential honeymoon destination. But Mr. I Only Drink Beer said no.
However, after a few years of seeing my Dad drink red wine, and seeing that maybe it was a cool thing, Glenn gave it a shot.
Homeboy now knows more about the delicious nectar than I do!
| I get to keep him forever? DAYYYYUMMMMM. |
So naturally, we went in expecting a fabulous tasting and to buy a few bottles to add to our growing Honeymoon Collection.
What we weren't expecting was to leave our tasting as the newest members of a wine club.
That's right, y'all, we're old grownups official members of the Acacia Vineyard wine club, through which we receive two new bottles of wine every three months.
Maybe it makes us old. Maybe it makes us "sucker tourists."
But you know what it also makes us? Owners of bottles of wine that are never and will never be sold to the public!
The wines we receive are generally produced in only about 200 barrels per year, so we couldn't just go out and buy this deliciousness.
And perhaps the coolest {read: most ridiculous} part of our whole membership?
Acacia has to ship the box to a physical location where an adult 21+ will be able to sign for it.
Welllllll, we work full-time jobs five days a week, so Mr. Boxy can't come to our house. The solution?
Every three months, a box filled with two bottles of wine is delivered to our office.
It's not labeled, so we're in the clear there.
But it's more the temptation of sometimes I have a bad day and I just need a swig of vino while curled up under my desk.
Oh yeah, and we also came home with this:
Why yes, that is a box filled with 12 bottles of wine, that we checked as a piece of luggage on our return flight home.
Napa, you're a goddess. Thanks for the fuzzy memories.

That looks like an amazing honeymoon!! We are just beginning to plan ours now and Napa is on the list!! I think waiting sounds like a great plan... even if its just a few weeks or so. I can't imagine the exhaustion the day after your wedding and I wouldn't want to be rushing off to vacay right after!
Caleb and I contemplated going to California after you told me how amazing it was, but I think we'll save that for another vacation in our future. Caleb is a total wine-o now, haha he likes it so much.
:) uh PS -- you are gorgeous.
Yesterday was my 5 year anniversary and I still haven't had a wine filled week away with my husband! I think I need to get on that stat!!
xoxo

Dying at "shitty shitty shit stains." I will be stealing that, thank you. lol xo!
Hilarious post and Napa sounds so divine! We have yet to go on our honeymoon (we're six months in) and have opted to do it crazy big since we've had to wait by going somewhere out of the country! I'm actually happy that we've waited and would recommend it too...it really gives you a chance to think outside the box and really do something lasting!!!
How fun! We waited THREE years after we were married to finally go on our honeymoon. My husband and I lovvveeee red wine so this sounds right up our alley. I would love a little shipment to my house filled with wine!
I'd love to go to Napa!
Don't get me wrong, I love NC's little wine country a lot...but Napa! Fabulous.
Girl I had one day after my wedding to get ready for a 6am flight out of the country on Mondya morning and we had to visit with family for the majority of that one day I had to prepare, because you know we didn't pack and shiz BEFORE the wedding- CHAOS. A wine vacation looks amazing! We're planning our 2nd anniversary trip now- I'll have to keep Napa on the list! How cool is it that ya'll still get wine?! Love it! Happy Tuesday lady!
Never even thought about a belated honeymoon, but you make it sound pretty appealing. And all the wine!! gah, sounds like a little slice of heaven :)
Napa would be such an amazing vacation. The closest we got to Napa on our honeymoon were a few celebratory bottles of muscato.
i need a vaca like this in my life. or i just need you in my life. napa trip?!
That's crazy that y'all's honeymoon was postponed! But, welcome to life/marriage, right? Y'all got broke in good with the financial yucks right away. :/
Glad y'all ended up goin' somewhere that you both enjoyed! Neither of us are wine drinkers, but once in awhile I do enjoy a nice riesling (although I prefer to puss it up by turnin' it into a spritzer). #winepooh
Happy Tuesday!
Fun!!! Sounds like an amazing honeymoon!! Steven and I bought a house instead of going on a real honeymoon lol. I def don't regret that decision though!! We have plenty of time to take vacations together in the future (once we get some moola saved up!)
So so so funnn! I looove wine and am dying to do a Napa trip!
What a fun honeymoon! I have been dying to go wine tasting forever. I mean my boyfriend took me wine tasting before but I want to make a weekend of it! It looks like fun! :)

WHAT? I didn't like SF? It's one of my favorite cities! lol you might want to look into some groupon deals for your next vacation. Ive seen all inclusive getaways for like $330 for 4 days for 2 ppl! Im thinking of doing one myself, and the flights are only about $600! But, I also don't have a sick pup or need for new tires (why are they so darn expensive? Lets move to a city where we can walk everywhere! lol) But, I am glad you enjoyed Napa...it is beautiful up there!
Heeeyyyyyyy girl! LOVE that you went to Napa for your honeymoon. We too waited about 2 weeks to go on our honeymoon...only because we wanted to avoid Holy Week in Rome and Vatican City. The wait wasn't so bad. But like you said, it was well worth it! So happy you converted your burrr guy into a wine snob :)
sounds like a lovely time!! oh how I'd love to be a member of a wine club.
xoxo, Amy
Wine is so the best!
Soooo i just decided that our 'double blate' (you like that? haha!) should totally be to a wine tasting!! we should look into that.
I am so jealous! My husband has been to san fran but i have never been to california!! I want to go to Nappa very soon! Can your husband teach my husband that wine is not so bad?
Tater Tot and I will be on the next flight to NC to taste that secret vino. See you soon!!
p.s. my jealousy knows no bounds.
I am dying to go to Napa! What a great idea for a honeymoon!
And I absolutely adore your writing!

You are hilarious! Wish i didn't die every time I drank red wine b/c now I want to love it even more! We did New Orleans on our honeymoon so we could postpone "the big trip" once we had more time/money & all that jazz too. Now we're planning for a European excursion and it's been well worth the wait & excitement :)
Is it weird that I live in CA but have yet to visit Napa? I've been to the Santa Barbara wine valley, but not Napa...anyways sounds like a great spot for a honeymoon. I planned/ dreamed for a cruise...and that's what we got!! I totally agree with postponing your honeymoon we got married in July and took our honeymoon in December...so fun and still had the newly married feel :)
What a great honeymoon idea! We're getting married in May and are not going on an immediate honeymoon so it's nice to hear we're not the only "crazies."
